Manufacturing Jobs on the Rise: Top Jobs

Finally, the US manufacturing sector is improving and jobs are returning for individuals with extensive warehouse and industrial experience. Manufacturing jobs have increased by 4% between 2010 and 2012 and the number is continuing to rise. Computer aided manufacturing is seeing the most growth along with machinists and engine assemblers. There are four specific sectors in which the industry is seeing the most growth. What kind of manufacturing jobs should you be on the outlook for in coming months?

  • Metal refining positions. Furnace operators and tenders are jobs that are growing in the industry. Manufacturing facilities are looking for specialists who can oversee the operation of these aspects. Many of these positions are going to require previous experience with functions such as hardness inspections and chemical compositions. This position can be labor intensive so quality candidates must be comfortable with heavy lifting and standing up for long periods of time.
  • Computer controlled machine operating. Both metal and plastic experience is being sought by many manufacturing environments. While this field was in decline from 2007 to 2009, it has increased 14% between 2010 and 2012. These positions often required specialized experience such as CNC as well as an understanding of OSHA requirements. It may also involve the setting up of computer controlled assemblers or robots.
  • Metal pouring and casting. Die casting is on the rise as well. This may involve everything from mold management to trimming the resulting pieces. Most of these positions require previous manufacturing or foundry experience. Some facilities may be looking for specialized experience such as sand casting or v-process.
  • Assembly. The biggest growth for assembler positions has been seen within machine and engine assembly. These positions often require experience for blueprint reading as well as math skills and at least a high school diploma.
  • Pay range. These positions can range anywhere from $12 per hour to $18 an hour depending on the requirements of the job and previous experience. Some may pay more if they are specialized. These positions are often temporary in nature so working with a local staffing company will be a benefit.
